The Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation has developed a list of committees that outline the general functions of the organization. Each committee has a designated chairperson who oversees the duties within that unit. Below is a list of those committees.

Legal Committee  Chairperson: Dahlia Canes
This committee handles all legal matters within the organization. This can include researching, collecting and evaluating evidence and interviewing/communicating with expert witnesses.

Events Committee  Chairperson: Steven Madrid and Maria Mederos
This committee handles all the responsibilities relating to upcoming and future events that MCABSL will host and/or participate in. They will organize and set-up the event, as well as handle all procedures prior to the event. This can include contacting vendors, determining locations for events, and ensuring a smooth and successful outcome.

Marketing, Media Affairs & Promotions Committee  Chairperson: David Concepcion
This committee is in charge of making MCABSL a “marketable” organization. This can include ensuring that they are presented in a positive light and ensuring that MCABSL is associated with parties that will endorse and promote its cause and mission. This committee also handles the promotion of MCABSL. Its committee members will network with the appropriate persons to help MCABSL in aspects such as fundraising, media coverage and all other forms of public relations.

Fundraising & Finances Committee  Chairperson: Jesus Rivero
This committee handles all financial matters pertaining to MCABSL. They handle all money related issues such as contacting prospective donors for sponsorship, and the development of a budget that will allow MCABSL to properly manage their finances. Committee members will also handle all matters related to fundraising, including the coordinating of ideas that will allow for funds to be generated for the organization. A business minded individual and/or persons with a background in finance and/or accounting should participate within this particular committee.

Volunteering Committee  Chairperson: Jessie Hernandez
This committee communicates with all members and non-members who support MCABSL and are interested in helping the cause. This committee should be active in recruiting individuals who will help MCABSL obtain its ultimate goal. This committee should handle all aspects of volunteering including: rescue volunteering, event volunteering, and fundraising and sponsorship. The committee members serve as recruiters for the organization and its mission.

Web Development Committee  Chairperson: Jade Soto
This committee is in charge of all aspects of the MCABSL Website. Its members should have some background knowledge in Graphic Design and know how to work with such things as HTML and possibly CSS/JavaScript. This committee will ensure that MCABSL events and updates are posted on the MCABSL Website. This committee is the direct source of communication with MCABSL and its members.

Education & Awareness Committee  Chairperson: Edel Miedes
The purpose of this committee is to inform the public of MCABSL’s mission. Each committee member should be dedicated to creating awareness of MCABSL’s mission and ultimate goal as an organization. These committee members are the “teachers” of the MCABSL organization. It is their job to educate others on what we believe and the facts and myths behind the breed we so passionately defend.

Breed Assessment Committee  Chairperson: Edel Miedes
This committee handles all aspects of breed identification. Each member should have some background knowledge of how to properly identify a specific breed and should be familiar with the physical and physiological characteristics that make up each individual breed of dog. Members who have some experience in animal rescue, rehabilitation and/or training should become active in this committee.

Production & Videography  Chairperson: Stephanie Sarkissian
This committee is in charge of all aspects of cinematography and production. Their goal is to provide the public with an inside look of MCABSL and its mission as an organization. They provide the public with short films, documentaries, public service announcements and many other videos which are released to media outlets and resources. They are essential in broadcasting our message to the public.
