Jeri Anne Smith has been an animal advocate and lover for as long as she can remember. She currently serves as a Board Member for the Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation and is also on the Events Committee and the Breed Assessment Committee of the organization. Jeri has contributed so much of her time to rescuing and transporting hundreds of animals throughout Florida. Her passion for rescue and transport led her to join MCABSL and help the public understand the truth behind all bully breeds. Jeri spends much of her time with her husband and family who she loves dearly. She is known for being able to brighten any situation up with her sense of humor and smile. Jeri's position on Breed Specific Legislation has allowed her to help MCABSL towards their goal of removing this unjust ordinance once and for all. Jeri believes that no animal should be discriminated against and that any animal in the wrong hands is capable of doing harm. Throughout her rescue and transport trips, Jeri has come across every kind of breed of dog. She has never had a problem with any of the bully breeds she has cared for, and always laughs and says "It's usually the little ones that put up more of a fuss." Jeri's dedication to helping animals is something to be admired and she hopes to continue saving lives through her rescue efforts.

Anne Shields was born and raised right here in Miami, Florida, by a Cuban-American mother, and an American father. Ever since she can remember, she was always surrounded by animals and was also involved in animal rescue at a young age. Anne always knew that her future career was going to be something involving animals. She graduated Barry University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology, with a specialty of pre-vet (2003), because she had always considered becoming a veterinarian. However, certain circumstances arose and her professional career path took a much different direction. Instead, Anne enrolled, and was accepted into the pharmacy program at Nova Southeastern University, but she realized that, that was not her passion. She still held onto that thought that she had as a little child, that she was supposed to do something to help animals. So, she left pharmacy school, and pursued her passion in helping animals, and is now training dogs and helping owners better understand and better communicate with their dog. Aside from training pets, she has also worked with several dogs at local no-kill shelters, to help increase their chances of getting adopted and finding their forever home. Not only does Anne work as a trainer and as an animal behaviorist, but she is still very involved with animal rescue, and also in animal rights, and animal law.

Few artists in pop music have managed to overcome the obstacles of time, trends and geography while staying true to their own style. Willy Chirino's name appears on this small and exclusive list. His contributions to the development of his county's culture and the culture of Latin America, along with his long standing fight for the freedom of his people, make him one of today's most important figures in pop music. His work as a businessman converted this musician into the protagonist of his own enterprise. After being on the artist roster for CBS and later Sony Music Inc., he decided to face the challenge and start his own music label, Latinum Music Inc., marking his debut with the production of a double album by his wife, renowned singer Lissette, recorded live in Puerto Rico. With almost four decades spanning his career, he has received multiple awards. Several he cherishes the most are the street that carries his name in the city of Miami, the star on the famous and very Cuban, Calle Ocho, in the same city of Miami. He also cherishes his FACE award, recognition by UNICEF and the Hispanic Heritage award, awarded to him five years ago by the United States government's Department of State. More recently, he was given an honorary Doctorate Honoris Causa degree by St. Thomas University. His songs have traveled around the world several times, performed by him and other singers, such as Raphael, Vicky Carr, Dyango, Ricardo Montaner, Celia Cruz and Oscar de Leon, among many other prime figures. He has also collaborated on three soap operas: La Zulianita, Pobre Diabla and Laura Virginia. At twenty two years of age he was married for the first time to Olga Maria Rodriguez, creating a family along with his three daughters: Angie, Olga Maria and Jessica, the product of this twelve year relationship. Later, he would meet Lissette, the woman he has shared his life with for the past twenty five years. Their relationship derived from a simple friendship to later being swept away by the love that would unite them definitively. With her, three children would enter his life: Nicolle, Alana and Gianfranco. Of them all, the five daughters maintain the passion for music with which they grew up in their home, some as songwriters, others as singers. Willy recently joined the Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation to help them raise awareness and aid in helping neglected animals. His contributions to his community have been many. Wise and profound, he enjoys mundane work much more than a fleeting moment of success. Many of the dreams of the child from Consolacion del Sur have been realized, but he still hesitates to leave that child that lived dreaming.
Daughter of the famous husband-and-wife entertainment team Olga y Tony, Lissette became a star of her own with several pop hits and many successful appearances on television and in film. Cuban in origin, born to Olga Chorens and Tony Alvarez, Lissette toured throughout Latin America with her parents, and had her first hit at the age of five. Originally sent to the United States to save her from the Castro regime, she was reunited with her parents three years later in Puerto Rico, where she received her own television show and soon after a recording contract. Before long, Lissette became a Puerto Rican fashion icon and author of her own trend, the "Lissette look." Lissette helmed several television specials, two of them on Channel 10 and Channel 4 in Miami. She won two Emmy awards and also had her own soap opera, called Solamente Tu. She starred in her version of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "Song and Dance", inspired in a 'latinized' version. Lissette recorded many popular songs, including "Eva", "Maquina", "Vivo", "Salvaje", "Fuego", "Mal Sueno" and her rendition of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" called "Eclipse Total del Amor." She also appeared in several films, among them the 1979 American film Winter Kills (starring Jeff Bridges, John Huston, Anthony Perkins and Elizabeth Taylor) for which she wrote the song "No Me Acostumbro." In 1980, she married the recording superstar, Willy Chirino. She has three children, Nicolle, Alana and Gianfranco. Currently, Lissette and Willy released their first duet album "Amarraditos." Lissette is happy to be a part of MCABSL and hopes to continue aiding them in their cause.

Laura Allen, Esq. is the founder and Executive Director of Animal Law Coalition, which advocates for the rights of animals to live and live free of cruelty and neglect. Laura Allen is a trial attorney with more than 20 years of experience trying cases and arguing appeals in the state and federal courts in Washington, Illinois, Missouri and Arizona. She is a member of the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court. Several years ago, when she and her husband adopted a dog from the local shelter, they had no idea how he would change their lives. Thanks to their beloved dog, Luke, she became involved in animal welfare. Laura first worked as an attorney for Best Friends Animal Society, helping establish programs to stop breed bans and puppy mills. Laura then founded Animal Law Coalition. As she explains, “Like many of you, I could see the suffering that goes on every day in shelters, breeding facilities, factory farms, slaughter houses, animal "parks" or exhibits, circuses, animal research facilities, and homes where there is abuse or neglect. I could see the policies of the federal as well as state and local governments were more focused on expedience, cost and convenience when it comes to animals than their humane care and treatment, their right to live. Government policies are more focused on development than restoration of wildlife habitat and conservation of the animals in the wild. “I could also see the public has little awareness of the suffering or of government policies towards animals.” Animal Law Coalition hopes to change that. Through analysis of the legal issues that affect animals, ALC strives to inform and engage the public in the fight to stop animal cruelty. Animal Law Coalition funds litigation and lobbying efforts to affect government laws and policies to stop the abuse and suffering. In particular, Animal Law Coalition has a program working with local officials and drafting legislation to avoid breed bans. Animal Law Coalition has successfully convinced communities to avoid breed bans by working with local officials to draft legislation that does not discriminate based on breed but promotes dog safety. Laura is a frequent speaker and a regular guest on Animals Today Radio and Wild For Life Endangered Talk Radio. She is an advisor to Our Stubby Dog Heroes, a project to restore the image of the pit bull dog and also serves on the advisory board of Saving America’s Horses and WFLF Wild Capture Awareness. She works with Compassionate Animal TV and Animal Advocate Television.
Marcy LaHart, Esq. is a solo practitioner residing in Gainesville, FL. Her state wide practice focuses on animal law and public interest environmental law. Marcy is the recipient of an Animal Hero Award from Stand Up For Animals, and had been named a Public Interest Advocate of the Year by the Environmental and Land Use Law Section of the Florida Bar. She includes among her most satisfying victories having succeeded in getting two dangerous dog ordinances declared unconstitutional, resulting in both dogs being reunited with their guardians rather than being destroyed. Marcy holds a J.D. and certificates in Ocean & Coastal Law and Natural Resource Law from the University of Oregon and a B.S. from the University of Florida. She is a member of the Florida Bar, the United States Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

Crystal is the founder of Pit Bulls Pounding the Pavement, the first of its kind in the state of Florida and in the Tampa Bay area. PBPP’s mission is to promote responsible ownership and bring a positive image to American Pit Bull Terrier’s, while still staying true to the breed. Their goal is to bring all sides of the Pit Bull community “together as one.” As advocates, they believe that everyone needs to do everything possible to preserve, protect and ensure the future of the American Pit Bull Terrier breed, because extinction is permanent and forever. Crystal is also proud to be affiliated with MCABSL. She is happy to aid MCABSL in the fight against BSL, and against the battles going on in Miami and the State of Florida.

Debbie Malott has owned Pit Bulls for over twenty years. She was first introduced to the breed by her husband, Lloyd, who showed her just how amazing this breed really is. She soon realized how loyal, loving, yet misunderstood they really are. Debbie currently lives in Tampa, Florida, and is a proud mommy to her dogs Lucy Loo and Bubba. It was the love and passion she gained from owning her babies that led her to become actively involved in the Pit Bull community. The fear of a possible introduction of Breed Specific Legislation within her county or even the possible introduction of a state law has allowed her to become an active member of the Mid Florida American Pit Bull Terrier Association and Pit Bulls Pounding the Pavement. Both organizations are within the Hillsborough County area and they promote responsible ownership, as well as host monthly fun shows and walks where owners can attend with their dogs. Debbie is proud and blessed to have both her beautiful Pitties in her life. They are the highlight of her day. Debbie is proud to be a member of MCABSL and hopes to help the organization remove these discriminatory bans. She believes that we owe it to our dogs to protect them from negative publicity, discrimination and more so, from the threat of extinction.
Vanessa Zelaya has loved animals for as long as she could remember. When she was just seventeen years old she began working within a kennel at an animal hospital. It was then that she began to realize her passion for animal care. She grew very fond of the animals that came into the clinic and found herself wanting to learn how to treat and medicate them. Soon after, Vanessa became a Veterinary Technician and has worked with several animal hospitals to date. Vanessa is an avid advocate of the American Pit Bull Terrier breed as well as other bully breeds. She has seen the affects of Breed Specific Legislation on many different breeds and wants to help eliminate the ordinance for good. Vanessa' goal is to help all dogs who are being discriminated against and euthanized solely because of their breed. She believes that judging a dog by its breed is like judging a person by the color of their skin or the race they belong to. She will continue to help MCABSL fight for the lives of the many wonderful animals that need them.
Chris Perez has loved bully breeds from the very start. He first became familiar with the breed when he met his red nose American Pit Bull Terrier named Marino. It was then that Chris learned what Breed Specific Legislation was in Miami Dade County. His best friend was taken from him by Miami Dade Animal Services nine years ago. Marino was put to sleep solely because of his breed. This tragedy has brought Christ to MCABSL, to help fight for animals like his very own, Marino. Chris is now the proud owner of a Bull Terrier named Athena, who is the love of his life. Athena gives him the strength and motivation to help fight the injustices of Breed Specific Legislation. Chris has worked as a Radiological Technologist for the past two years and is currently attending the University of Miami, majoring in Biology with minors in English and Chemistry. He aspires to one day become a doctor and use his profession to help the less fortunate. Chris has vowed to preserve the memory of his closest companion by helping MCABSL with the battle against BSL.

Brandon Perez was born and raised in South Florida. He is a graduate from Felix Varela Senior High School and is currently attending Miami Dade College, pursuing a career as a Physical Therapist. Brandon first learned about the Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation through their article in the Miami New Times. He has always been an animal advocate and has had a special love for the American Pit Bull Terrier breed. His brother, Chris Perez, is also an active MCABSL member and both have shared a mutual bond because of their love for animals. Brandon and Chris have both had Pit Bulls throughout their lives and learned how to truly nurture and care for these dogs. They know first hand that these dogs are loyal and loving and that they are a victim of the misinformation portrayed through the media. Their biggest reason for joining MCABSL and helping fight the BSL ordinance comes from the loss they faced when Miami Dade Animal Services took their dog Marino, away from them a few years back. This loss broke them apart and they vowed to help others understand their rights as dog owners. They have been placed in situations where they have had to give up other dogs due to their being banned in Miami Dade County. Brandon currently owns a beautiful Bull Terrier named Athena. She is also part of the reason why he is fighting this unjust law and she helps to remind him of how important it is to make a difference.

Mario Chiozza is a member of the Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation and the proud owner and trainer of an American Pit Bull Terrier named Rocky. After being rescued by a local group, Mario met Rocky and fell in love. It was then that he decided to adopt Rocky. Rocky and only one of his brothers, were the only ones who lived after their mother had died. Rocky was only three weeks old at the time that he lost his mother. He was bottle-fed formula before graduation into eating mush. He eventually began eating real food. Rocky was so full of life right from the start and his own personality and zest for life, which was so apparent at three weeks, has continued to grow right along with him. Since he was a puppy, Rocky has attended obedience class. The day Mario saw Rocky climbing straight up a wall of railroad ties, he knew that agility would be his true calling! Rocky and Mario truly love agility and enjoy traveling together to trials. They are always the stars at every event and Rocky gets along with everyone. Rocky runs USDAA and NADAC, and they hope to start running some CPE. Rocky has earned P1 Jumpers and Gamblers titles in USDAA and is one Q away from his Jumper's title. He is also close to earning another. Mario and Rocky have become a successful team together and continue competing in agility competitions. Together they are set to change the perception of the American Pit Bull Terrier breed and to show just how wonderful they are.
